Trading Resources (that I use)
Resources I use:
I trade using my laptop over a Telkom line (eagerly awaiting Neotel’s launch, but they’ll probably collaborate with Telkom anyway to keep the prices up… moan, moan, B!tch, B1tch – pwaah! – I feel better now, having gotten that off my chest)
I use the slowest of Telkom’s internet options (384Kps) and purchase my bandwidth from Webafrica. Make sure you have another way of connecting to the web just in case your primary connection goes down!
I trade using Standard Banks Online Share Trading software (operated by Standard Financial Markets)
Sharenet Free Major Moves Page (this is a good place to see whats on sale during the day) – the page is delayed by 15 minutes
Bloomberg.com This is where you can find out what sort of day the JSE is expected to have.
I also use these site sometimes:
CNBC.com
FT.com
TV: I watch a lot of TV throughout the day (I build and maintain websites for a day job (never quit your day job
, so the TV plays in the background most of the day).
I do flip channels quite a bit and sometimes turn it off when it gets too much (and it does get too much!!!)
Channels I watch most:
News @ 1 / Africa News Update on SABC3 This is a particularly good show to watch during the day as it gives a good overall outlook on local /oversees news, both financial and otherwise.
CNBC Africa Channel 410 on DSTV
Bloomberg (Channel 411) on DSTV
CNN
